History

50 years of videocabaret - where we're going and where we've been

VideoCabaret is entering a new chapter.

Following the passing of founding Deanne Taylor and retirement of Michael Hollingsworth, the company has been redefining its leadership and artistic structure. Artistic Director Anand Rajaram has concluded his tenure, and decades-long collaborator and designer Andy Moro helms the board-led transition as Director of Programming and Design - leading a new era of development centred around a collaborative model creation and development crucible / showcase venue and living legacy, The Deanne Taylor Theatre.

As we look to 2026/27, our 50th season, revisioned programming is led by an team of board members assuming artistic advisory roles specifically for the company's 50th season. A time of great celebration and change. This collaborative model provides stability while supporting renewal. Recognition and rebirth together. The relationship between the legendary creative

entity that is VideoCabaret and the newly birthed Deanne Taylor Theatre is recalibrated to support each other creatively and pragmatically.

Historically, VideoCabaret built its reputation on politically incisive, media-aware Canadian theatre that integrated design from the earliest stages of creation. From its origins on Queen Street, the company fused theatre, video art, rock music, and television aesthetics into a distinctive hybrid performance form.
