As the company enters its 50th anniversary season, it signals a re-emergence as an active, original-producing force in Toronto. Following a period of profound transition — including the passing of founding artist Deanne Taylor and the long-term care of Michael Hollingsworth just as the company finally achieved its art home at 10 Busy Street.

VideoCabaret has recently undertaken a deep and thoughtful restructuring of its leadership and artistic direction. Under the production/programming leadership of Andy Moro, steered by an Artistic Direction Committee, the company is re-articulating, honing and implementing a clear, responsible and formative vision for the next chapter.

Company Co-Director: Programming and Design

Andy Moro has been a key artist with VideoCabaret for 35 years. He production Managed and Technical Directed the company through the early years at the Theatre Centre, Factory Studio and Mainstage, eventually designing and rebuilding the backroom at the Cameron House. He brought the famous Black Box to Stratford and Soulpepper and is now the Director of Programming and Production at VC’s Deanne Taylor Theatre in Toronto.

He Co-founded and Directs ARTICLE 11 with Governor General’s Award / Siminovitch Prize winning Tara Beagan. Andy and Tara are currently mounting Tara’s newest work Squeaky with VideoCab and Downstage Theatre Calgary at the DTT and a LatinX version of their infamous Deer Woman / Mujer Venado with Aluna and the Factory Theatre. Upcoming, a production workshop of their next work, Nice White Lady.

Company Co-Director:

Emily Dix is a creative producer, award-winning director, writer and designer working primarily in theatre, with experience in film and tv. She founded Bygone Theatre in 2012 and continues to run the company as its Artistic Executive Director, producing, directing and designing the majority of their productions. Through Bygone and other initiatives Emily runs affordable, hands-on training programs for artists of all ages, encouraging production artists to learn by doing.

As a producer and administrator, Emily has worked with Tarragon Theatre, Crow's Theatre, Theatre 20 and numerous indie companies. She has a BA from UofT, is trained as a paralegal and has a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution. She has an extensive administrative background including 4 years working in finance for the City of Toronto. She was thrilled to join the ranks at VideoCab in early 2026, starting as the Venue and Rental Manager before transitioning in the co-director position alongside Andy Moro.

Previous directing credits include: The Rear Window (winner, Broadway World Toronto, Best Play), The Yellow Wallpaper (nominated, Broadway World Toronto, Best Play), The Birds (winner, Broadway World Toronto, Best Play), Loot, Wait Until Dark, His Girl Friday, Rope, Dial M For Murder and Doubt: A Parable, all for Bygone Theatre.

Director of Community & Audience Engagement

Kiera Publicover (she/they) is a classically trained, award-winning actor, playwright and emerging producer. A Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient, Kiera works primarily in new play development and is currently developing new work alongside her company Arrowwood Theatre Company - an indie theatre company that offers affordable training to emerging artists and collaborative, community based theatre. Her work was featured in the 2024 Stratford SpringWorks Festival, and has been workshopped in theatres across Toronto.

As a performer, Kiera’s work has been featured on stages across Ontario, including: Marguerite in Isle of Demons (Guild Festival Theatre); Annie in The Birds (Bygone Theatre); Agnes in Weston: Then and Now Festival (Shakespeare in Action); herself in Canada’s Next Chopped Model Minority (Paprika Festival); herself in Contactless (Soulpepper’s QueerFutures 2099) and more.
